Why do I feel socially arkward staying with them?

So I'm staying with my mother's friends family for the summer. And for some reason I feel socially arkward. I don't feel comfortable sitting down stairs with them and talking with them. I feel like all the time i need to talk to them. My home is a place were I can unwind, I dont feel like talking all the time. But I feel like if I dont say anything to them, then I might be being rude.But they'll make comments like Brittany you just woke up or I didnt even know you were upstairs your so quiet. Uhhh--yes should i be making alot of noise. Like I dont feel like talking. So what should I do, it's really arkward.
