Motorcycle vs Car in Germany?

Hello, I am in need of some basic information in regards to a transportation decision in Germany. I am moving to Germany in five days and I was wondering if its more advantageous to buy a bike rather then a car there. I had a street bike in the states so I know how economical it is to own one, but my wife thinks that they are more expensive in the UK and she doesn't recommend it. To back up her opinion I have to admit that I almost never saw any Germans riding around when I was there so I guess she could be right. I don't have a guaranteed job when I get there so economics is my main reason for asking. If its cheaper then I want one again. Any thoughts?
