What benefit does homosexuality bring the human species, evolutionarily?

Is it evolutionarily advantageous that the species have fewer numbers, or greater numbers? Evolutionarily, isn't it every species attempt to survive? And, what better way to survive than having a lot of you? Strength in numbers, right?
